Coco Chanel was the first designer to introduce her faux pearls into her collections. This sparked a trend that remains one of the staple items of costume jewellery today. Layers of pearls were seen on her simple couture clothes worn by Chanel herself. In the 1930`s Chanel partnered with Duke Fulco de Vedura, of Verdura Jewellery to launch a collection of timeless designs including byzantine jewellery that Chanel introduced into her collections too..
