Description
Commonly known as a Columbine, Aquilegia vulgaris ‘Black Barlow’ is a hardy perennial well suited to cottage gardens, and they make excellent cut flowers too! This Aquilegia produces double blooms with jet-black petals, sure to catch your eye wherever they’re grown. They stand tall atop long, wiry stems which hold them in pride of place in the garden. Perfect for growing in cottage garden planting schemes, cutting and displaying in vase displays and in patio pots. Grow aquilegias in a sun or part shade in fertile, moist, well drained soil. Columbines hybridize readily, be aware that any self-sown seedlings may not come true to type. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead faded aquilegia flowers to prevent them self seeding. Aquilegias dislike disturbance but overcrowded clumps may be lifted and divided in spring when necessary.
