You really can’t top these outstanding Begonias for creating spectacular exotic displays on your patio from July all through to October, filling your garden with excitement and class. This wonderful mixture is supplied as a selection of stunning bi-colours, so you can expect to be surprised and captivated when these beauties pop up! The massive layered ruffled blooms can reach up to 15cm (6in), the ideal plant for patio pots, window boxes and containers! Tubers are ideal for containers, making a larger plant in the first year than plug plants or growing from seed. From February, start begonia tubers off in well-drained, moist compost in a warm, frost-free position in bright light. When planting begonia tubers, position them just below the compost surface with the indented side facing upwards. When begonia plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them in their final positions. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from strong winds. Feed and water plants frequently throughout the growing season taking care not to over-water, as this will cause new flower buds to drop. Deadhead faded blooms regularly to encourage more vibrant begonia flowers to be produced and to extend the flowering period. At the end of the growing season the leaves and stems will yellow and fall off naturally.
