Bugaboo Fox 5 Graphite Chassis (Supplier Colour: Stormy Blue / Grey Melange)
Description
The Bugaboo Fox 5 combines the impressive performance you expect from the famous Dutch brand's flagship pushchair with a more streamlined look, smoother functionality and exciting new features.
If you're familiar with previous incarnations of the Bugaboo Fox, you will know at a glance that this is quite a different beast. Gone are many of the distinctive white chassis parts in favour of a sleeker frame with more flowing lines. The central hub has moved to give increased manoeuvrability and control, an easier kerb pop, and the added bonus of improved access to the generous-sized basket. You can slide up the hood, as well as lengthening the seat unit, to give your child more growing room. And – this one's a real crowd-pleaser! – the fold is now a speedy, one-handed operation that leaves you with a neat, one-piece, self-standing package.
The changes are so significant that Bugaboo considered giving this model an entirely new name, but ultimately decided that the Fox – with its ability to adapt seamlessly to life in town and the countryside – still perfectly represented the pushchair's qualities.
This is, perhaps, the ultimate all-rounder. While most pushchairs are designed for a bit of everything family life throws at you and will cope happily with local parks and firm footpaths, the Fox 5's all-terrain capabilities go much further. The innovative central joint boasts eight integrated rubber suspension elements, providing rear wheel suspension, and the spring suspension in the front wheels gives additional protection against bumps. Large wheels with rubber outer tyres along with a soft foam core absorb ups and downs in the path, aiding the super-smooth, comfortable ride for your little one, and are puncture-proof for your peace of mind.
Despite these off-roading credentials, the Fox 5 is equally at home navigating a city centre or busy day out, or making light work of the school run. It is engineered to be extremely manoeuvrable, even in tight spaces, can negotiate kerbs with minimal effort, and is as comfortable for your passenger as it is easy to push. It folds into a free-standing position without the need to remove the seat unit (whether it's parent or world-facing), and you can do it all with one hand, leaving the other one free for your toddler – ideal if you're using public transport, popping the pushchair in and out of the car, or storing it out of the way in a cafe.
From-birth options
The Fox 5, like its predecessors, comes with carrycot and seat fabrics, which each attach to the same frame – so you'll swap them over when your baby reaches around 6 months old. The carrycot is deep and spacious, incorporates ventilation to keep the inside cool and fresh indoors or on the hottest day, and comes with an aerated 3D mesh mattress and protective apron. This latest version has been approved for overnight sleeping, which can be a huge benefit, meaning you can use it instead of a travel cot on early trips away (that's one less thing to pack!) and it can also be utilised for naps during the day, saving the cost of an extra Moses basket or similar. Bugaboo has launched a carrycot stand that is intended to take the Fox 5 carrycot with the addition of adaptors, so it is raised off the ground to a comfortable height.
If you're looking for the convenience of a full travel system, with the ability to move your baby without disturbing them in their car seat onto your pushchair chassis for those quick dashes into the shop or nursery, the Fox 5 is compatible with a range of infant carriers using adaptors. These include the Bugaboo Turtle Air by Nuna, which has a spin function when used with the Bugaboo ISOFIX base, and the Cybex Cloud Z2, which can also recline into a close to lie-flat position in the car and on the pushchair, as well as other options from brands like Maxi-Cosi and BeSafe.
Your growing child
The Bugaboo Fox 5 seat unit is suitable from around 6 months and made to last until your child no longer needs a pushchair. The ergonomic design and padding ensure comfort while supporting development. It also sits 2cm higher in position, maximising face-to-face interaction. The Fox has always had a tall and roomy seat but with the footrest extension and ability to raise the hood, this model offers a full 10cm more space for your toddler to grow.
You may have noticed that there has been no Fox 4! Bugaboo has never created a model with 4 in the name for any of its pushchairs as it is considered an unlucky number in some cultures.
