Hooded, snapdragon-like, two-lipped flowers are held on strong square stems in summer.Chelone are moisture loving plants, native to the damp areas of woodlands and prairies in North America. These hardy perennials thrive near ponds or in boggy areas where they happily naturalise. Chelone also make an attractive addition to your containers or borders.The foliage emerges in March followed by compact, upright spires of flowers in August which continue until mid-autumn, providing late season colour when many plants have finished flowering. Chelone also make a great addition to a bouquet or vase and offer an abundant supply of nectar for pollinators.Your collection comprises; lyonia 'Hot Lips', obliqua 'Alba' and obliqua.According to Greek legend, the nymph Chelone was turned into a turtle by the gods when she refused to attend the wedding of Zeus and Hera. Chelone prefer to be grown in moist soil in a sunny or partially shaded area. In 2-5 years, each plant in this collection will reach a maximum height of 80cm to 90cm and will spread to 60cm.
