From early spring the ornate, heavily dissected, evergreen leaves of Thompson & Morgan Clematis ‘Avalanche’ provide a superb contrast with the glistening white flowers. Boasting some of the largest blooms, evergreen Clematis ‘Avalanche’ has flowers up to 4cm in diameter and non-clinging stems, ideal for wandering through borders or trained onto an obelisk or trellis for a show-stopping display. Choose a sunny or semi-shaded position when growing Thompson & Morgan Clematis ‘Avalanche’ and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, positioning the root ball at a depth of 7.5cm (3”) below soil level, in order to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry, however these soil conditions can be improved by incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in containers, use a soil based compost. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
