This semi-dwarf Dahlia mix is perfect for bringing a splash of colour to the middle of borders, as well as your beds and containers. Enjoy vibrant semi-double blooms of pink, orange, yellow and red from midsummer right through to autumn. Dahlia ‘T&M Patio Choice’ has a neat, compact habit and strong, upright growth so they won’t require staking. Perfect for dotting through cottage garden borders or adding colour to exotic planting schemes. These long-lasting blooms also make superb cut flowers. Plant dahlia tubers outdoors in April after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny position in moist well-drained soil. Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost. Plants tubers at a depth of 15cm (6”) and water well. Alternatively, start tubers into growth in pots of compost in a frost-free greenhouse. Transplant them into their final positions outdoors in June. Feed and water dahlias regularly throughout the growing season. While dahlia plants are still young, pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage bushier growth and masses of flowers. Deadhead faded dahlia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Bedding dahlia are generally grown as annuals, however dahlia tubers may be lifted in autumn and stored over winter in trays of peat or sand, in a cool but frost-free position if required. They can be potted up the following spring. Culinary note: All dahlia flowers and tubers are edible. The flavours and texture can vary greatly depending on the soil and conditions in which they were grown. Flavours range from water chestnut through to a spicy apple or even carrot.
