Nice, clean iconic rocking chair from Thonet. Michael Thonet chose to present the Schaukelstuhl as a chair for the home, for every home, a piece that every family could use & experience in everyday life. There was also a scaled-down version for children, as posters of the time demonstrate. Comforting, the Schaukelstuhl was also chosen to enrich relaxation areas & winter gardens of elegant hotels. An iconic piece loved by famous people including & most famously Picasso, who had two of them in his atelier. The chair is in good vintage condition & the cane has no damage in either the seat or the back-rest. However, there has been a repair to one arm which isn't noticeable unless you look for it & doesn't detract from the structure of the chair. A very cool chair that would be a real talking point in any room so now it is just waiting for a new home!
