Vintage Tressemanes & Vogt China from Limoges, France ca 1910 - Oblong Vegetable Serving Bowl This elegant serving bowl measures 9-1/2 long & 7-1/2 wide. There is one chip on the bottom edge that would be undetectable at dinner. Priced for that flaw. Manufactured in Limoges, France for the American market by Tressemanes & Vogt between 1907 & 1919, according to the dating of the backstamps. John Vogt (1815-1906) was born in Germany to a family of porcelain & glass retailers. in 1840 he opened an import house in New York, then office in Limoges (1850s) when he soon began decorating porcelain for export. His son Charles Vogt (d1886) & his nephew Frederic Dose (d1908) joined the New York company in 1865 & traded as Vogt & Dose, which also had a decorating studio in New York. Dose took over in 1886 then was succeeded by Gustave Vogt whose son Charly managed the New York operations, which closed in 1931. A second son, Gustave Vogt (1849-1937), took over the Limoges branch by 1870 & partnered with Emilien Tressemanes in the early 1880's. in 1891 they bought two small porcelain factories in Faubourg Montjovis (Limoges) & made high quality whiteware for export to the USA. The company was commissioned in 1891 to produce a dinner service for President Harrison. We sell select vintage items. They are not new, & rarely look new. They are, in many cases, older than we are. They have seen life & times. We do not repair or replace parts on any of the items we sell. They came to us in the condition they are now, & are sold as is. When we say an item is in excellent vintage condition, we mean just that - it is in excellent condition for its age. We examine our jewelry with a lighted magnifying dental lamp. We are very particular about what we buy & sell, & describe things to the very best of our ability, in a fair & accurate way.
