The Pillow Case - Mali Mudcloth Cushion Cover - Hand dyed & woven by the Dogon people of Mali, West Africa - Cotton Back with a zip close - 40cm x 60cm (16x 24) Mali Mud Cloth - Mud Cloth, also known as the Malian Bogolan cloth, is perhaps one of the most distinctive African textiles. - The processes behind making mud cloth is gender-specific. Women hand-spin yarn of often locally grown cotton, which the men then weave on the local version of the narrow strip loom into plain cloth strips. - Having been washed & shrunk, the women prepare a dye bath made from pounded Bougalan tree leaves & other ingredients.The cloth is soaked, then left out in the sun. - Using a spatular type tool, the patterns are painted onto the cloth using fermented mud.
