VICTORIAN TIGER OAK 'GREEN MAN' TWO DRAWER CONSOLE TABLE D I M E N S I O N S Height: 100 cm Depth 57 cm Width: 123 cm It was George Hepplewhite who wrote, in 1788, that 'furniture should unite elegance & utility & blend the useful with the agreeable'. & this utterly divine & highly pleasing Victorian solid oak table clearly echos that sentiment.© Indications of quality abound this magnificent, handcrafted English Victorian 'Green Man' Console Table. Raised on exquisite turned baluster legs, terminating in caster feet, it is further complimented by a useful parcel shelf base. A rare Victorian piece, crafted from fine, 'Tiger Oak' & displaying exquisite, ornate carving detail to both its drawers & apron edges. With 'Green Man' drawer pulls. Painted in a hand mixed shade of delicate light 'French Grey' - this being another of our 'perfect neutral ' tones - that have, in each instance been inspired by the varied hues of the magnificent dry stone walls that divide the breathtaking Derbyshire landscape, where we live. A little further background on the 'Green Man' ... Throughout England, as medieval buildings rose, men carved faces into wood & stone.
