NEW BESPOKE COmmISSIONED WELSH BLANKET inspired by the colours of the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast, West Wales. These have been made in collaboration with my lovely friends in my old shop The Blue Boat, Cardigan & a wonderful old Welsh mill. Woven on original 1930s Dobcross looms. The blankets feature the traditional Welsh 'Portcullis' Caernarfonshire design. These blankets are 230cm square - a standard double size, comfortably fitting even a King Size bed. They have beautiful 4 tassels. They have a unique label with my own Bellemoon label & the name of the blanket 'Cottage by the Sea' The colours are a combination of a subtle grey background, forget me not blue, charcoal & cream. The blankets are woven with Shetland wool. We chose this rather than the more popular Merino for two reasons. We wanted the blanket to be made & sourced solely in the UK, & we wanted a slightly coarser (but still soft) wool that would be more authentic & hark back to the old vintage blankets that I so cherish on my stall in Abergavenny Market. These coarser wools result in a tighter, more vibrant pattern & they are durable - they last for centuries! It is a longstanding Welsh tradition to pass on a 'Carthen' (Welsh for blanket) from one generation to another. Also to give as a Welsh Birth, Christening, Wedding gift or for a special birthday such as 18th or 21st. But my favourite reason is to send one as a gift to someone who is missing Wales, wants to be reminded of home & needs a 'cwtch' (welsh for cuddle)! This is a limited edition colour way. There are 13 blankets & this colour combination will never be made again! The wool is biodegradeable, renewable & we hope these blankets will become treasured heirlooms for generations to come. Postage to UK mainland only.
