Beautiful antique, Victorian brass chamberstick. Fancy brass candle holder with lots of evidence of its age & authenticity. I love the shape of the saucer & its cut work handle. The candle cup has been made from a tubular shaped piece of brass with a curled top rim. It is screwed to the saucer & neatly finished off underneath. This has a diameter of 7/8. The brass has also developed fabulous patina & it comes complete with its 'battle scars'. It has been repaired at some time in its life, the brass section supporting the handle has had a newer piece added on top of the old & there is solder visible in that area. The replacement has been done entirely from in front, the underside looks as it always did.I imagine this area weakened with use as the brass originally used was thin.The edges were curled over as a finishing touch when the candle holder was made & in some areas they have small splits. The brass generally shows marks from age & use. However I love these imperfections & do not feel apologetic mentioning them ! This candle holder has been very well used in its lifetime & someone spent the time repairing it so that it could continue to be used. I feel these things make it an exceptional piece. We look, see & then think a whole lot more about it & its life. It also has a really great 'look'. It was found with a pair of antique brass wick trimmers. They look amazing together.
