Stunningly elegant, vintage, possibly antique Japanese milk or cream jug & lidded sugar bowl duo. Made from white porcelain & decorated with transfer printed borders in beige & pale green, tiny flowers maybe stylized cherry blossom & the star of the show bold & beautiful iris in deep orange & indigo. Gilded accents & some sparkle . in places the paint has been added by hand & here the paint gives a slightly raised effect. Notably the centres of the tiny blossoms & the petals of the iris flowers. The shape of these pieces is lovely. The sugar bowl in particular has a very 1930s look to it & is complimented by the sweeping handles on either side, tapering to the neat but sturdy base. The milk jug is long & narrow also complimented by an exaggerated sweeping handle & narrow base. Both stamped 'Made in Japan' with a rising sun motif. No damage, some quirks from the hand painting or transfer technique which makes the pieces unique. Please see photos. There are a couple of dark specs within the porcelain inside the sugar bowl from the manufacturing process. Sugar bowl is 4 1/2 tall x 5 1/2 wide. Milk or cream jug 4 3/4 tall x 4 wide. Combined unwrapped weight 341g. Team this pretty pair with other vintage china for an elegant table setting or display them on a dresser or in a cabinet.
