I was out on assignment for a magazine in the local community of Westridge. Westridge is a beautiful development in Santa Clarita where the houses are large & larger! The streets are clean & cleaner. & the neighborhoods are quiet & quieter! My assignment was to find some people to photograph. However, there were no people. There were no families at the park There was no one walking their dogs. Everyone was either at work or closed up in their homes. This was my first assignment for the magazine & I was determined that I would not leave Westridge without a winning photograph. I walked up & down Westridge Parkway, which had been under construction at that time. When I turned up the street to the local elementary school there were signs of life! I could hear the children playing on the play ground. As I trudged up the hill to the school, I remembered what the publisher had requested. He wanted shots of the community, people living their lives, people that we could spotlight on the cover. As I heard the screaming laughing kids in the distance, I knew that prior approval would need to be requested as well as releases, & on & on. As I stood on the hill pondering my nearly empty memory card, I noticed that behind me there was a commotion. After photographing a beautiful drab Western Bluebird, I turned my sight to the valley below. This was yet another beautiful day, in a beautiful neighborhood.
