Kaj Franck designed in the fifties for Nuutajrvi glass works two quite different glass series, which both are commonly called Kartio (Cone or Spire in English). The first Kartio series official catalog number is Nuutajrvi 2744. They were mouth blown: made by blowing & rolling by hand. These glasses are thin compared with later Kartio glasses. They were produced by Nuutajrvi in many colors in period 1953-67 (and by Iittala in 2011). Those glasses were sold also in special Kimara called packages, which included glasses in assorted colors. Kimara means something like cocktail or mixed set in English - in this case it meant a set of different colored glasses. Original Kimara sets with original boxes are very wanted & high valuated nowadays. The second Kartio series official catalog number is Nuutajrvi 5027. Franck designed this more practical & durable series in 1958. The glasses were thick compared to 2744 glasses, & they were made by pressing the glass mass. Nuutajrvi produced this series for about a decade. After company arrangements these glasses are produced later by Iittala too. On those glasses appear molded text Iittala Kaj Franck. Both series were produced in many colors. I am not sure if the colors (over ten different) have any official names. Anyway, this later color is ultramarine blue. Here is available set of four 5027 series light blue 21 cl tumblers in original packages. Measurements: Height 78 mm Top diameter 77 mm Volume about 20 cl Weight for four glasses plus two boxes 820 g This set is unused, & in perfect condition. Black texted Iittala stickers are remaining.
