Antique Large Moroccan Traditional pierced solid brass hanging lantern. The decorative brass is aged & has original patina & was slightly cleaned to remove dust. The shape is reminiscent of a teardrop & can be hung by the top ring or chain added to lengthen it. There is a hole on the top near the ring, where I believe an electric cord once was threaded thru. This is for a single shaped - hanging candle / tea light / push on light holder. Items like these are usually from Turkey, Persia, Morocco, but they are also referred to as Oajar, Islamic, & Mosque lamps. What is clear is they are Middle Eastern metalwork. This beautiful piece dates from the early 1900s This one measures, 22 inches tall with a circle at the top to attach a chain, & a diameter of approx. 12 inches. It has a pulley system that allows the top piece to open up away from the bottom piece to place the candle or light in the base. When a light is added you get wonderful shadows on a wall if close, candles also can work for this. The lights or candles are very easy to get in & out of the piece.
