This is a beautifully decorated Victorian Sterling Silver Serving Spoon with a gilded bowl. The round bowl has chased vine leaf decoration as well as being gilded. The lower part of the stem is a barley twist & the upper part has more chased vine leaf decoration surrounding a blank cartouche. This ezquisite spoon was made in London by the renowned Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company & dates to 1887. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson & John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London & the Regent Works in Sheffield. in 1952 they amalgamated with their Regent Street neighbours Garrard & Co. Condition is extremely good. with no dings or dents, no loss to the gilding & just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 135 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs. The serving spoon is 19.9cm / 7.8ins long & weighs in at a very respectable 46.5g / 1.6oz of solid Sterling Silver. The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter M for 1887, the Queen Victoria duty mark & the W.G over J.L makers' mark for William Gibson & John Langman of The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company.
