Description
This black stoneware vase is handmade by myself from my Eastern Ontario pottery studio. My shapes are inspired by Victorian 'chimney pots,' cathedral architecture & the principals of the Arts & Craft movement. I created my unique glaze recipe to resemble the frost-coloured lichen that grows on weathered limestone & granite buildings & headstones. Due to the nature of handmade, each varies slightly in shape, size & glaze colour. Measures approximately 18cm x 18cm x 13cm & holds 24 oz. Comes packaged with a maker's info card & care instructions. - Process: This vase was formed on the potter's wheel & decorated with hand carvings. It gets fired twice: First time in a 950oC bisque firing to harden the clay. Then it is removed from the kiln, cooled, & dipped in a handmade glaze that gets fired again to 1200oC to form a thin layer of glass over the clay. This makes it water-tight, food-safe, & durable enough to last another 10,000+ years. Every piece takes approximately 3 weeks to make. Materials: Made with a Canadian-made grey stoneware clay from Oakville, Ontario & glazed using my own unique recipe from a natural slip, mined in Ravenscrag, Saskatchewan.
