This uniquely featured natural look bowl is hand turned from a large English oak burl. Burls are formed when a tree is damaged, a branch broken off for example, & the tree grows the burl to cover the damage. Such burls are not common but are much sought after. in this case the burl has grown to a shape which produced the intriguing 'window' in one side of the bowl. The bowl is quite large (dimensions below) & heavy, but the base has a slight rounding to one side which makes it feel a little less solid on that side. The weight of the bowl, however, tends to compensate, maintaining a good level of stability. The wood is finished with food safe Danish oil, mainly to preserve the colour & featuring, but also to avoid wax being trapped in the crevices. Undoubtedly different, this beautiful & unusual bowl would be a real talking point.
