This onyx dish is a great functional piece - ideally designed for keeping your surfaces clean, but equally striking when not in use. A timeless piece, this would look just as good in a boho boudoir as it would as part of a minimalist, mid-century sideboard. The ashtray comprises of a flat piece of caramel-toned onyx, into which a carved bowl has been cut. The bowl was presumably originally designed as an ashtray, but is perfectly clean & useable for a range of functions - the cupped shape of this piece means that it also functions well as a trinket bowl for holding rings, earrings & loose coins, & could also be used to hold a small candle. Furthermore, the water & tarnish-proof nature of stone means that this could work brilliantly in the bathroom, as a dish for a bar of soap or a natural sponge. Measurements... Height: approx 4cm Diameter: approx 20cm x 15cm This style of onyx bowl was most commonly produced in the 1950s-1970s, although no maker's details are present on this piece.
