Sweet mug, with dark earthy colors. Made on the potter's wheel from two different clays, giving stripes of color. People have often told me that my mug is their favorite & most comfortable mug to use. What could be a greater compliment? I try to make good handles that fit the hand well, are well balanced for the shape & weight , & also to hug around the belly or tooshie...depending on the style you prefer, & how you like to snuggle up with your cuppa. I hope you enjoy this mug for many years, maybe generations. Soda fired stoneware with glaze inside. Soda firing is an atmospheric firing method, where the glaze is made in the firing process, not just melted. For the last few hours of the firing, I spray a solution of soda ash & water into the fire box, which is carried through the kiln with the flames, steam & heat, forming a glaze with the silica in the clay body & slips. This creates variation in color over the surface, a result of different amounts of soda buildup on each piece. This means that each piece is completely unique, & cannot be repeated.
