Reduced During WWI & WWII sweetheart pincushions were made by soldiers & sent home to wives, sweethearts, & mothers. These pin cushions were often decorated with beads, sequins, bits of mirror, felt, & pre-printed panels memorializing soldiers’ regiments. Some such pillows were made out of commercially sold kits or sewn using feed sacks & scrounged thread. I've been wanting to recreate sweetheart cushion for years & years, after falling in love with them many moons ago. So this is my take on the sweethearts. This cushion is heavily stuffed using sawdust for a nice firm fill. A green wool & a pink suede leather backing. & then i've used a selection of metal sequins, faux pearls, glass beads & chrome pins, ribbon, chain & a pendant to make this cushion. A fringe goes around the sides. Measures 19cm by 23.cm at the widest points. A perfect piece for all those loved ones out there.
