Rare antique silver plate Hotel de Paris creamer Beautiful detail. Ornate handle Engraved Hotel de Paris Date estimated 1923 Measures: Approx. 2 H x 2-1/2 across (excluding handle) Montreaux Switzerland Bottom stamped Helvetie & Famille Montreaux with Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik backstamp PFG CHS & a tiger This backstamp was registered in the late 1880s & would be consistent with age of hotel time period. PFG - Packfong = Nickel Silver alloy, CHS - China Silberi Condition: Nice antique condition. Surface scratches, pitting, oxidation, appropriate for age. Handle secure. Interior shows minor sign of wear & pitting. Flat level bottom. Small area near spout where silver plate is worn. See next to last picture. History: Hotel Helvetie is a witness of the development of tourism in Montreux. Opened in 1865, it was first named Hotel-Pension de Russie, & hosted the many customers who came from the North, looking for a warmer climate during the cold season. After the Russian revolution (1917-,1923) the hotel is named successively Hotel de Paris, then Hotel Helvetie. The hotel still holds nowadays all the elements of the original faade. in front of the Casino & at 200 meters from the lake, the hotel is located in the heart of Montreux. It is an ideal start to the main touristical attractions of the region: among many others, the promenade by the lake, the Chillon Castle, the Rochers-de-Naye peaks, the cruises on the lake & the Jazz Festival in July.
