A striking brass door stop with a long handle & bold Art Nouveau detailing, weighted with lead. Door stops (also known as porters) were first introduced in England during the 1700's to keep large doors closed in Grand Country Houses against the cold. Or to keep them open in Summer & thus prevent the doors from slamming shut in a draught. Measures 14 inches tall & 7 inches wide (35 x 18 centimetres).
