Horticus is a modular living wall system that can grow in keeping with your botanical demands. Our small kit, consisting of 3 frames & 6 planters, is a great way to start. There is no need to add loads of plants straight away, take cue from nature & grow your living wall at your own pace. How do you water Horticus? - The planters provide ample room for roots & can be watered from above through a grid of watering holes. Each planter takes 0.5L of water, roughly every 7-10 days in spring & every 14 -17 days in winter. How do I maintain my plants? - The frames allow the planters to be lifted in & out; great when it comes to re-potting, routine maintenance or a simple spring airing. Do I need special plants for Horticus? - Majority of the house plants will be happy growing in a vertical position, especially trailing plants. We don’t recommend planting cacti due to their prickly nature being at eye level. If you have particularly large plant specimens that rely on branch support, Horticus frames will make a fantastic trellis. How come the soil doesn’t fall out? - We use loam soil, which has a mixture of clay, sand & silt in equal parts. Clay & silt are water retentive & as a result also help for the soil particles to stick together. This combined with plant roots that inhibit soil erosion, prevents the soil from dropping out. You can also use sphagnum moss, it has the added value of moisture retention. Where can I use Horticus system? - Kitchen allotment, green bedroom oasis, steamy bathroom jungle, living room wall garden. Make any room a living habitat. Can I add more units to my Horticus later? - Absolutely, the beauty of the system is that it grows & adjust with your demands & space availability. Add extra frames or remove them, shuffle your planters around for happier plants position. Check out our medium kit in our other post. What happens if one of my plants isn’t doing so well?- All of Horticus planters are removable, so you can simply take the planter down & put aside until you have a replacement plant. Alternatively, you can use your planter as a little display & place a memento from your life’s journeys. Are plants included? - Please note, plants are not included. What is Horticus made of? - Terracotta - Natural porous & earthy it’s beautiful & great for plant roots. Powder coated steel - Strong & light. Both materials provide beautiful contrast to plants & will complement all colour schemes.
