An elegant pair English antique Old Sheffield Plate silver plated candlesticks dating from the late 19th Century in the Georgian style. Sheffield plate is a layered combination of silver & copper that was used for many years to produce a wide range of household articles. These included buttons, caddy spoons, fish slices, serving utensils, candlesticks & other lighting devices, coffee & tea sets, serving dishes & trays, tankards & pitchers, & larger items such as soup tureens & hot-water urns. in good condition these have a lovely mellow patina that old Sheffield Plate gets after years of use & polishing where sections of the copper can be seen through the plate, known as copper bleed through. I have not polished them, just given a good rub with a soft cloth. They have removable sconces, & heavy weighted bases, with the original baize. Each weighs nearly 1Kg.
