Christmas paper garland made from handmade Lokta-paper - 7 short garlands with star, christmas tree & heart per mobile - Each component is made of 3 papers sewn together - Unfold for a 3D look - Size (approx.): 50 cm wide; 80 cm high (60 cm from the stick) - handmade in Nepal - made from handmade Lokta-paper ABOUT THE PAPER Nepali Lokta paper is an eco-friendly paper handmade from the bark of the Daphne cannabina. Known locally as Lokta which is found at an altitude of 2000 to 3500 meters in the mountainous region. The Lokta bush fully regenerates in about 4 to 6 years after being cut to about 6 inches from the ground. The cultivation of this tree-free paper is a reliable source of income for the village artisans in rural & urban areas of Nepal. This indigenous handmade paper is known for its exceptional durability & special texture. The oldest available manuscripts of Buddhist texts were written on this paper. The papermaking process involves boiling the bark twice, washing it successively, chopping it, & hitting it with a mallet. The soft pulp is poured over a wooden frame & spread evenly by gently shaking the floating frame in water & then sun drying it. Purchasing this product will help improve the socio-economic conditions of the lower classes in both rural & urban areas of the Himalayas.
