This original festival poster from 1968 is from the Festival du Marais in Paris, France. It shows a leaping masked classical ballet dancer Photo Claude Ferrand Printed by Moderne du Lion, Paris Dimensions: 23.5 in x 15.5 in (60 cm x 40 cm) Condition: rough edges, some pin holes, see photos. Photos have some unhelpful glare... sorry! The Festival du Marais is a festival (theater, music, street performances , etc.) which was held in the Marais district of Paris , from 1962 to 1993. It took place every year in June & lasted approximately 3 weeks. The first Festival du Marais in 1962 was organized by a group of young people from the 4th arrondissement to raise funds to save the Maison de l'Ourscamp (Maison de l'Ours) 44 rue Franois Miron Paris 4th . The artists contacted agreed to give up their fees the leader of which was Jean Marais who helped convince the other actors of this first festival. This was held in the courtyard of the Htel de Sully on loan from Andr Malraux , Minister of Culture. Created on the initiative of a group of young people gathered around Michel Raude, & a few months before the association for the Safeguarding & Enhancement of Historic Paris , of which he is the twin brother, this festival aims to make Parisians & the administration aware of the state of disrepair of the Marais, which has today become one of the most touristy places in the capital. The Marais Festival also highlighted the sometimes little-known actors in the defense of Parisian architectural & historical heritage. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm. These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
