1969 NASA Apollo 8 Poster, Man's first direct close look at the Moon, Apollo Program, ISS laboratory, wall art decor This is the ninth poster in a 1969 series of quality posters on NASA's Apollo Program. It describes the Apollo 8 & the mission in December 1968 when Borman, Lovell & Anders got to lunar orbit & gave the first direct close look of the Moon. The poster shows photos taken on the mission & statements from the crew on each. Apollo 8 (December 21-27, 1968) was the first crewed spacecraft to leave low Earth orbit, & also the first human spaceflight to reach another astronomical object, namely the Moon, which the crew orbited without landing, & then departed safely back to Earth. These three astronautsFrank Borman, James Lovell, & William Anderswere the first humans to witness & photograph an Earthrise. The Apollo program, also known as Project Apollo, was the third United States human spaceflight program carried out by the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA), which succeeded in landing the first humans on the Moon from 1969 to 1972. It was first conceived during Dwight D. Eisenhower's administration as a three-person spacecraft to follow the one-person Project Mercury, which put the first Americans in space. Apollo was later dedicated to President John F. Kennedy's national goal for the 1960s of landing a man on the Moon & returning him safely to the Earth in an address to Congress on May 25, 1961. It was the third US human spaceflight program to fly, preceded by the two-person Project Gemini conceived in 1961 to extend spaceflight capability in support of Apollo. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm. These posters are sent as unframed. They will be rolled up & delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
