This is a 1970s poster of Dali's 1955 religious painting, The Sacrament of the Last Supper. A blonde, transparent Jesus sits with his disciples with their heads bowed in prayer at the last supper with the arms of God spread above. Dimensions: 22 in x 35.5 in (56 cm x 90 cm) Condition: paper aging, some foxing, particularly on edges, some white marks. The Sacrament of the Last Supper was completed during Dal's post-World War II period, which is characterized by his increased interest in science, optical illusion & religion. During this time he became a devout Roman Catholic & simultaneously was astonished by the atomic age. Dal himself labelled this era in his work Nuclear Mysticism. He sought to combine traditional Christian iconography with images of disintegration. This is especially apparent in his piece The Madonna of Port Lligat, which was completed six years earlier. The painting was not commissioned. in a paragraph in the National Gallery's curatorial file but missing from all published accounts, Dal wrote of this picture: The first Holy Communion on Earth is conceived as a sacred rite of the greatest happiness for humanity. This rite is expressed with plastic means & not with literary ones. My ambition was to incorporate to Zurbarn's mystical realism the experimental creativeness of modern painting in my desire to make it classic. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm. When framed these colourful & detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time. These posters are sent as unframed.
