1972 Rene Magritte Poster, The Large Family 1963, clouds bird, Collection Nellens Verzameling, surrealism, gallery exhibition wall art decor This original Rene Magritte exhibition poster is from the Casino Communal Knokke in Belgium for the 1972 exhibition featuring a La Grande Famille or The Large Family from 1963. Magritte's famous clouds-in-the-bird stand out. Dimensions: 25 in x 11.5 in (64 cm x 29 cm) The Large Family shows a white bird & a gloomy surrounding. The drab sky that could be getting ready for a storm, or pink lights that are shown towards the horizon suggest storm that has ended. This picture also evokes turbulent feelings especially with the rolling sea that is seen below & the ominous clouds above. If these two are connected to the title of the painting ' The Large Family,' they could have been used to symbolize the tribulations & trials that most families always go through together. A white bird is used to symbolize peace in most instances, & it could have been used here for the same purpose. This bird in a window-like shape reveals just within its profile a blue sky that appears so calm with white clouds. These beautiful white fluffy clouds are shown to create a feeling of warmth just like the ones seen on a typical summer day. Ren Magritte was a Belgian surrealist artist. He became well known for creating a number of witty & thought-provoking images. Often depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context, his work is known for challenging observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality. His imagery has influenced pop art, minimalist art, & conceptual art. Knokke Casino is a sea-front casino in the town of Knokke, in Flanders, Belgium. It is known for its permanent large-scale artworks by Keith Haring, Ren Magritte, & Paul Delvaux. The architectural style is said to have been influenced by Le Corbusier, along with Art Deco & the designer's Beaux-Arts training. What is special about exhibition & gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm. These posters are sent as unframed.
