Description
1989 British Airways Poster, Boeing 747 - 200, by Roy Huxley, BA Aviation aircraft aeroplane plane, travel wall art decor This is a 1989 original advertising poster for British Airways or BA as it is affectionately known. It shows the Boeing 747 - 200, painted by Roy Huxley. Printed for British Airways in Great Britain Dimensions: 30 in x 20 in (76 cm x 51 cm) British Airways (BA) is the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom. It is headquartered in London, England, near its main hub at Heathrow Airport. The airline is the second largest UK based carrier, based on fleet size & passengers carried, behind easyJet. BA was created in 1974 after a British Airways Board was established by the British government to manage the two nationalised airline corporations, British Overseas Airways Corporation & British European Airways, & two regional airlines, Cambrian Airways & Northeast Airlines. On 31 March 1974, all four companies were merged to form British Airways. The carrier expanded with the acquisition of British Caledonian in 1987, Dan-Air in 1992, & British Midland International in 2012. The Boeing 747 is a large, long-range wide-body airliner designed & manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States. After introducing the 707 in October 1958, Pan Am wanted a jet 2+12 times its size, to reduce its seat cost by 30% to democratize air travel. in 1965, Joe Sutter left the 737 development program to design the 747, the first twin-aisle airliner. in April 1966, Pan Am ordered 25 Boeing 747-100 aircraft & in late 1966, Pratt & Whitney agreed to develop its JT9D engine, a high-bypass turbofan. On September 30, 1968, the first 747 was rolled out of the custom-built Everett Plant, the world's largest building by volume. The first flight took place on February 9, 1969, & the 747 was certified in December of that year. It entered service with Pan Am on January 22, 1970. The 747 was the first airplane dubbed Jumbo Jet, the first wide-body airliner. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm. When framed these colourful & detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time. These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
