1989 French Coastal Seascape Poster, Jean Le Merdy, landscape, seascapes, French painter, wall art decor This is a 1989 poster of Jean Le Merdy's Coastal Seascape from an exhibition at the Gallerie Des Orfevres in Paris, France. Note there is tape in some of the corners from original presentation. Dimensions: 27.5 x 19.5 in (70 x 50 cm) Jean Le Merdy was a figurative painter, bordering on the abstract. He enrolled in the School of Fine Arts in Rennes in 1946 . in 1949, he was admitted to the cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Jean Souverbie. in 1956 , he obtained the second prize of Rome & became laureate of the Casa de Velzquez in Madrid where he joined the painter Romain Souverbie. He spent the summer painting landscapes in Concarneau & Brest which is perhaps where this is from. The artist paints gouaches on paper & will retain from his stay in Spain a taste for ochres, scorched earths & rusty tones. What is special about exhibition & gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced. Because of the age of these posters & their history, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The posters are traditionally folded up & with their age are creased. The good news is that when framed, the creases & tears press up well against glass, & any rough edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm. These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
