1992 The Magic Roundabout Poster, advertising for children's books from Serge Danot, Heinemann books, wall art retro decor Original poster of The Magic Roundabout books which followed the popular children's tv series. Dimensions: 23.5 x 16.5 in (60 x 42 cm) Condition: some foxing to the lower part, see photos. The Magic Roundabout is an English-language children's television programme that ran from 1965 to 1977. It used the footage of the French stop motion animation show Le Mange enchant, but with completely different scripts & characters. The French series, created by Serge Danot with the help of Ivor Wood & Wood's French wife, Josiane, was broadcast from 1964 to 1974 on ORTF (Office de Radiodiffusion Tlvision Franaise). The BBC originally rejected translating the series because it was charming... but difficult to dub into English, but later produced a version of the series using the French footage with new English-language scripts unrelated to the original storylines. This version, written & told by Eric Thompson, was broadcast in 441 five-minute-long episodes from 18 October 1965 to 25 January 1977. It proved a great success & attained cult status, & when in October 1966 it was moved from the slot just before the evening news to an earlier children's viewing time, adult viewers complained to the BBC. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.
