Original Vintage British Paignton Devon Travel Poster Torbay Britain Devonshire harbour boats travel tourism holiday vacation wall art 1950s This is a charming British travel poster from Paignton in Devonshire from the British Travel & Holiday Association. It shows the Paignton Marina & the surrounding harbour & the Jurassic coast. White-sailed ships sail in the background. Printed by Harrison & Sons. Dimensions: 30.7 in x 20.5 in (78 cm x 52 cm) Paignton is a seaside town on the coast of Torbay in Devon, England. Together with Torquay & Brixham it forms the borough of Torbay. The Torbay area is a holiday destination known as the English Riviera. It has origins as a Celtic settlement & was first mentioned in 1086. It grew as a small fishing village & a new harbour was built in 1847. A railway line was opened to passengers in 1859 creating links to Torquay & London. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm. When framed these colourful & detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time. These posters are sent as unframed.
