Vintage British Imperial Airways Travel Poster City of Wellington airport UK Britain travel tourism holiday vacation Visoni wall art 1990s This poster shows the City of Wellington, a plane from the 1930s of the Imperial Airways fleet parked at an aerodrome. Artist is Harold McCready Dimensions: 27.6 in x 19.7 in (70 cm x 50 cm) Imperial Airways was the early British commercial long-range airline, operating from 1924 to 1939 & principally serving the British Empire routes to South Africa, India & the Far East, including Australia, Malaya & Hong Kong. The airplanes provided seats for about 20 passengers, typically businessman or colonial administrators. Accidents were frequent: in the first six years, 32 people died in seven incidents. Imperial Airways never achieved the levels of technological innovation of its competitors, & was merged into the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in 1939. BOAC in turn merged with the British European Airways (BEA) in 1974 to form British Airways. The posters in this series are faithful Visoni reproductions of classic 20th Century from the late 1990s which have bright vibrant colours & clean lines of some of the best-known travel posters. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm. When framed these colourful & detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time. These posters are sent as unframed.
