Description
Mug Dimensions: 3 1/4 tall 5 wide at the handle 3 wide at the cylinder 1/3 pound dry weight 7 fluid ounce container This series of mugs & cups were thrown with a batch of earthenware clay from earlier this year. The inner surface is glazed in a food-safe low-fire (below 2000 degrees Fahrenheit) glaze. I then hand painted the outside with a variety of underglazes similar to my recent influence of both graffiti art & the Abstract Expressionist movement & Color Field painters of the 1950's through the early 1980's...Thanks Frank Stella! All my work is safe for everyday use in the kitchen & is fine in the microwave. Note that earthenware clay never truly vitrifies (turns to glass/stone) like Stoneware & Porcelain. The result is that the handle on your mug may be hot to touch upon removal from the microwave. I am branching out & extending my range beyond traditional wood fired pottery. I am now in my 35th year of teaching primarily High School Ceramics. This necessitates my creating a range of work & firing processes for greater student understanding & is reflected in my own studio production at home.
