Description

A lovely cream/beige coloured vase with a native Sun Orchid design. Made by David & Valerie Chappell at their Angledean Pottery studio. in perfect condition. 14 cm high. 8 cm max diameter. 400 gm net weight. David & Valerie Chappell have operated the pottery for 35 years. Around 1974 Valerie commenced night classes, & David built a wheel & kiln. Once David started having a go at the wheel, it was soon realised that he was much more accomplished than Val at throwing, so Val took over the role of brushworking the pots. in 1982 David quit his other employment & took up potting full time. Val developed a stylised version of the native sun orchid (local to the Anglesea area),and it became the signature of their work. Between 1982 & 1988 works were signed 'Chappell'. From 1988 when they moved their new property at Bellbrae, the pottery name was changed to Angledean Pottery. David only used stoneware clay, & all work was wheel thrown.
