Etsy - Lightfootandlowe A Decadent Danish Designed Teak Coffee Table
Description
A rare solid teak coffee table by Finn Juhl for France & Søn. Finn Juhl was one of the great masters of mid-20th-century Danish design, the attractive feature of this table being the raised lip that runs the entire length of the piece as well as the solid teak timber construction. Some say that the raised lip gives the piece a slightly Asian feel. The solid teak construction is a testament to the quality manufacture of this piece. The design is simple yet distinct; this piece would make a wonderful addition to any modern living or office environment. This one is sitting in good order with no repairs, wobbles or sways, just day to day historic use. There are two small dark brown marks, as shown in the photographs. After graduating, he worked for ten years in the office of Vilhelm Lauritzen, a leading Danish Modernist architect. in 1945, he set up his own practice, specializing in interior & furniture design. Juhl created design forms with the mindset of a sculptor & much of his furniture was technically ahead of its time. Juhl’s career blossomed through his participation in the annual Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild exhibitions, nationally sponsored events that supported design innovation through collaborations between young architects & traditional cabinetmakers. Juhl found great success in his partnership with craftsman Niels Vodder, & together they created a number of important works, such as the Pelican Chair & the Chieftain Chair.
