Antique decorative silver plated card tray made by Walker & Hall, Sheffield. This could also be used as a small serving tray or drinks tray. It has a decorative floral scalloped edging. It stands on three feet decorated with acanthus leaves. It is engraved with the inscription Presented to Mr A.R. Ross on the occassion of his marriage by the Committee of the Glasgow Dickens Society, 7th November 1914. Because of the date we can assume that the dish dates to around 1914. The Glasgow Dickens society were united both in their love of the works of Charles Dickens, wishing to study his works together, & as a philanthropic soicety to help the poor who were often described by Dickens in his books. They raised money & held an annual dinner, the 'Annual Treat', giving poor children a Christmas meal. The tray is stamped 'Walker & Hall' both on the front & reverse. They were established in Sheffield in 1845 & became a successful company with showrooms all over the UK, Australia, South Africa & New Zealand. This is stamped as an 'A1' plate signifying that it is of the highest quality silver plating. It is in good condition. The plating is a little tarnished, especially around the decorative engravings, concurrent with its age, but otherwise in good condition. All gift tags are 5 x 10 cm / 2 x 3.94 inch kraft paper tags to match the complementary wrapping paper. Packing -All items are simply wrapped in brown paper & string (because these are a few of my favourite things). The items are then carefully covered with several layers of bubble wrap before being placed in lined & padded cardboard boxes. -I try to source my packing materials as sustainably as possible. I reuse boxes, packing nuts & bubble wrap whenever I can. Any packing materials that I source outside this (such as bubble wrap or boxes) are biodegradable or recyclable. Postage -UK: Shipping is free to addresses within the UK. I use Royal Mail's 'Second Class Signed For' service for most items sent within the UK. These should arrive in a few days but do get in touch if you would like quicker shipping. Orders too large for this will be sent by another delivery agency, such as Parcelforce 48 hour. -EU/International: For orders outside the UK, I use Royal Mail's 'International Tracked & Signed' which gives you peace of mind & allows you to track your item.
