The Chinese rice pattern, made in China & exported in great quantities in the 1950s onward, is made by carefully carving tiny rice grain shapes out of porcelain, then dipping the porcelain in a pearly glaze. The result is a beautiful visual illusion, making it appear that there is actual rice embedded in the clay. When held to the light -lamplight in the evening or even sunlight during the daytime - these pieces take on a mystical lantern look, delighting guests & family alike. Dragon at center, Bat border.
