A very substantial hand-carved oak "miséricorde" church stall from the mid-19th century with adjustable seat. The higher seat setting allowed clergy members to perch when their legs were tired during church services that lasted 2 to 3 hours. in the modern home, this ecclesiastical antique would be perfectly suited as a statement hall chair for changing shoes & removing boots. The chair is generally in very good antique condition with nominal old impression marks to the oak frame.
