2 Vintage Sheffield Silver Plate Bowls Walker & Hall Silver Plate Footed Pierced Bowl 7 & Boardman Glossop Victorian Pedestal Bowl 8 Two attractive Silver Plated Pierced Bowls including a very pretty elegant Vintage Walker & Hall Silver Plate 3 Footed & Handled Bowl with chased floral swirls - these are date stamped we think the code is for 1950 but buyer should double check & an antique larger pedestal bowl with scallop edge by Boardman & Glossop dating probably to the late 19th century with some plate loss - both have some tarnish & scuffs & marks consistent with age & use- please check photographs which form part of the description & do help - two very useful attractive bowls for the dining room table or sideboard - don't miss them! Walker & Hall - The business was established in Sheffield in 1845 by George Walker. Becoming an assistant of Dr. John Wright who had conducted important experiments on electroplating Walker secured the royalty of electroplating for Sheffield. The business was joined by Henry Hall & became in 1853 Walker & Hall. The factory was at Howard Street, Sheffield, while showrooms were opened in 45 Holborn Viaduct, London. Branches were opened in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cardiff, Belfast, Hull, Bristol, Melbourne & Adelaide (Australia), Cape Town (South Africa), Wellington (1911) & Auckland (1914) in New Zealand. Walker & Hall was converted into a limited liability company in 1920 under the style Walker & Hall Ltd & combined in 1963 under the British Silverware Ltd with Mappin & Webb & Elkington & Co. Walker & Hall Sheffield were primarily Sheffield Makers, but items with Birmingham, London & Chester Assay Marks can also be found. Charles Boardman started producing sterling silver wares (1844) but converted to electroplating in 1847 prior to enter in partnership with Glossop. Boardman & Glossop was active at 54 Pond St., Sheffield (1861-1871). The firm became Boardman, Glossop & Co in 1887 & was converted in 1895 into a limited liability company under the style Boardman, Glossop & Co Ltd. The business was bought in 1924 by Frank Cobb & Co. They were described as silversmiths, electroplaters & Britannia metal-smiths at Clarence Works, Sheffield & 16 Ely Place, Holborn, London (later at 18 Bartlett's Building, Holborn).
