Description
This soda fired tea light holder is 4 1/4 tall & 4 1/4 wide. The pot also doubles as a flower vase. The opening for the tea light is 1 5/8 & the opening inside that for flowers is 1. This holder gets the tea light up off the table & puts the flame where the light it gives off is more useful. I threw a B-clay (mixture of stoneware & porcelain) cylinder on the wheel then stretched the middle & necked in the top, forming a lip on the inside where the tea light sits. I dipped the outside in yellow slip (liquid clay) & trailed & dotted blue slip over it. After the bisque firing, I glazed the interior with a purple glaze that tends towards shades of blue when fired in a soda kiln. It was fired in a soda kiln where a mixture of baking soda & soda ash was introduced to the kiln during the firing. As the soda combusted, the vapors traveled through the kiln & formed a glaze on the pots (and shelves & walls...). The variety of colors on the outside are a result of the soda glazing the pot & interacting with the slips. As you turn the pot around, you can imagine how the flame traveled through the kiln doing its own bit of decorating. DIshwasher safe Soda Fired Striped Tea Light Holder Or Flower Vase
