Description
A rustic vintage pie safe, wooden country kitchen larder cupboard. This characterful piece of furniture, with pierced grills to the sides & front, would have originally been used to keep flies away from cakes or pies while they cool out of the oven. in France they are used to keep cheese in - out of the fridge but away from the insects. The central shelf of slatted wood can lift out should you require the full internal height. The cupboard retains its original hinges & swing brass latch to open & close. The pierced grills to the sides & front are original & retain the off white paint matching their last paint job, which based on the paint colour & type was a few decades old. I sanded front, top & sides of this cabinet back to wood to reveal the grain & carpentry & its original rustic character. There were several coats of paint on various colours before getting down to the original wood, but I have left the back & the inner edges of the panel frames as it was when I sourced it to retain the story of the piece. The bare wood was then given a coat of high quality internationally regarded hardwax oil sourced from the factory down the road from my home for protection, richen the wood tone & act as a sealant for the surfaces. in addition to being used in the kitchen for food, it could be used as additional free standing pantry storage, or as a side table for books or kitchen accessories, or for a lamp, plants or as a bedside cabinet.
