A very rare handmade vintage limitied edition No1. ceramic Christmas plate from 1981 made by the very well-known & prestigious designer Stig Lindberg, from Gustavsberg, Sweden. The inspiration for this plate is the biblical motif of the Flight into Egypt as the plate is called. Mary & baby Jesus are riding on the donkey, with Josef walking on the side, the whole nativity scene has a naive charm about it, but it is the colors & the references, which makes this plate a real centerpiece that stands out. It has a metal wire, ready to be placed on a wall & it also has the original box. -It is 1cm high & 22.5cm in diameter. (0.39 & 8.85). Wilhelm Kge & Stig Lindberg both injected fresh ideas of how to develop art pottery, jointly developed the noteworthy faience production through the late 1930s & early 1940s. The faience objects were created from reddish The Gustavsberg company was about to received worldwide recognition for the quality of its work. When Wilhelm Kge was hired as the head designer, he soon attracted the attention of many prestigious designer to the Gustavsberg factory, which sought out artists with new ideas. Kge accepted the offer from the factory, despite his lack of experience in ceramic production. His task was to add an artistic touch to the factory's functional items. Berndt Friberg (1899-1981) was hired by the Gustavsberg factory in 1934. During his first years, he worked as a thrower for Wilhelm Kge. Friberg's arrival was marked by a significant increase in the quality of Kge's art pieces. Soon enough, he became the undisputed master thrower at Gustavsberg. Through his early career, Friberg wasn't known for his artistic ambition. His artistic debut wouldn't come until the age of 42.
