Pair of salt glazed pots from the turn of the century. These bottles are super popular & used in a variety of ways around the home such displayed on an old dresser, grouped with other salt glazed pots & jars or an addition to a home bar Salt-glaze or salt glaze pottery, usually stoneware pottery, with a glaze of glossy, translucent & slightly orange-peel-like texture which was formed by throwing common salt into the kiln during the higher temperature part of the firing process. Sodium from the salt reacts with silica in the clay body to form a glassy coating of sodium silicate. The glaze may be colourless as seen on this bottle or coloured in various shades of brown.
