Etsy - OriginalHomewares stunning Midcentury Rosewood Extending Teak Dining Table
Description
You can't take your eyes off the exquisite rosewood patination here on this table. Restoring such beautiful wood to its former glory needed highly skilled expertise, & in collaboration with our french polisher, the finish achieved is exceptional. The high gloss shine is slowly built up through the patient application of laquer layers & the end result is really very durable, ready to withstand modern life. The table extends with a simple, concealed mechanism to over 210cm in width so it will comfortably accommodate eight-ten diners. It's the rosewood that's the main event here so the leg & frame design is unfussy & clean so it doesn't compete but we do love the gently boxed table sides which give this large piece an elegance & refinement. Sadly the maker's label isn't in place but we know it to be British in origin, most likely McIntosh or Gordon Russell. You can find more photos of this table at originalhomewares.com in thee DINING section. This is an original piece that is 'sold as seen'. It is in excellent, used condition. The rosewood table top has been professionally restored & a hardwearing laquer applied. The finish is absolutely outstanding with a high shine to showcase the rosewood patina. The table base & legs have been cleaned & a natural beeswax polish applied. Un-extended, there are brass clasps at each side to stop the two halves pulling apart. To extend the table to its maximum width, these clasps are rotates & the two halves slide apart with ease. Secreted in the middle is the extension which rotates into position & then folds out with a further metal clasp mooring it in place. The two halves then push back in & are clasped too. All moving parts & clasps are in good working order. The extension section is a little darker than the two leaves, a common thing, as the table top has faded a little, exposed to the natural light. Please refer to our photos to get a good sense of the stunning condition of the table top. The structure of the table is solid & sturdy. There are some minor scuffs & marks to the legs that you would expect from a piece of this age & nature, but truly nothing that detracts from the overall look of this handsome table. Sadly there is no maker's mark. When we acquired the piece it was billed as a 1960's Youngers Ltd table but we don't believe this to be the case. It's more likely to be a 1960's McIntosh table, as it features the signature bowed table edges of their later rosewood table models.
