Description
Caithness Scottish Green Glass Vase, 1960s/1970s A beautiful emerald green vase handcrafted in the heart of Scotland by Caithness Glass. Signed by the glassmaker & artist FB on the base, this short bottle vase is engraved with doves & an olive branch. This vase is in pristine condition considering it is over 50 years old with no discernable chips or marks & with the original sticker still on the side. It would fit into any collection, make an ideal gift or serve as a beautiful piece of home decor. Caithness Glass was founded in 1961 as a way to create additional employment in the face of the decline in local fishing & agriculture industries. The easy availability of sand The local sand quickly proved unsuitable for manufacturing clear glass because the high iron content turned the glass green so Caithness began to specialise in ornamental glassware & paperweights. It was awarded a Royal Warrant by the Queen Mother in 1968. Caithness is a historic county in Scotland on the tip of its northern edge, facing the Atlantic Ocean & the Pentland Firth (which separates it from the Orkney Islands) on the north & the North Sea on the east. With historic links to the royal family, the county of Caithness is home of John O Groats, Viking graves & medieval castles. Caithness Scottish Green Etched Glass Vase - 1960S/1970S
